A festive margarita for the holidays! Our cinnamon pomegranate margarita is a twist on the classic margarita, using cinnamon syrup and pomegranate juice! It’s great for a holiday party!
‘Tis the season for holiday drinks and we’re always looking for something fun and festive to make for Thanksgiving and Christmas. A margarita is one of our favorite cocktails and can be enjoyed all year long by adding just a few additional ingredients you turn it into a holiday cocktail.
Before diving into the recipe below, we’re sharing a brief history and some more useful information for making this delicious pomegranate margarita!
A BRIEF MARGARITA HISTORY
Margarita history starts with Margaret Sames. In 1948, she invited some guests over for a cocktail party and decided to experiment with some alcohol. She mixed Cointreau and tequila with a bit of lime and salt around the edge of the glass.

HOW DO YOU RIM A GLASS WITH SUGAR or SALT?
For this recipe, we used sugar to salt the rim. It goes better with the pomegranate juice. However, if you just love a salted rim you can do that to!
The top way to rim glass and have the salt stay on the rim is by using water. Place water in a shallow plate and salt in a separate shallow plate.
Dip the rim of the glass in the water and then in the salt. We find that this works much better than using a lime or lemon wedge or citrus juice.
HOW MUCH ALCOHOL IS IN THE MARGARITA?
Typically, there are two ounces of Tequila in a Margarita. You can add more or less depending on how you like the taste of Tequila.
MARGARITA GLASSES
These days, you can obtain away with any 8-ounce low ball glass. You can also use a traditional Welled Margarita Glass. It offers a wide rim for you to put salt or sugar on it. It’s an elegant design that’s great for this drink!
BEST TEQUILA FOR MARGARITAS
Here are a few of our favorite tequilas. You can purchase these at any beverage store and at Trendy grocery stores. Similarly, they’re all affordable and good quality.
For this recipe we used Espolon Blanco.
Casamigos Blanco Tequila – Crisp with hints of vanilla. It’s a very good tequila to sip too.

El Destilador Silver Tequila – Very affordable

- Citrus Squeezer
- Cocktail Shaker
- Glasses
- Knife
- Cocktail Jigger
- Sauce Pan and Measuring Cups – For the simple syrup.
How to Make Cinnamon Simple Syrup
Simple syrup is as simple as the name! It’s equal cups water and sugar, simmered together in a saucepan until the sugar is melted. For this recipe, we added a cinnamon stick and star anise to give the cocktail a holiday spice flavor.

Simple Syrup
In a saucepan combine the water, sugar, cinnamon stick, and star anise and bring to a simmer until the sugar has melted.
Let it simmer for another 5 minutes and then cool to room temperature.
The simple syrup can stay in the refrigerator for a week.
Cinnamon Pomegranate Margarita
Rim the glass with sugar.
Add all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake the cocktail for 30 seconds. Give it a good shake and no less than 30 seconds as the ice needs to dilute and mix the ingredients.
Strain the cocktail in a sugar-rimmed glass filled with ice.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick, pomegranates, and an orange slice.
Make sure you shake the cocktail really well with ice. This is a very important step.
Use sugar or salt for the rim.
Before straining the cocktail, give it a taste with a small spoon. If it needs to be sweeter add in a dash more simple syrup. If it needs more lime add that and give it another shake.
